A New Hope

No, not Star Wars - Although I am a huge fan - I have a new hope for weight loss. My name is Jess and I recently started eating LCHF (Low Carb, High Fat). I’m eating no more than 50 net carbs per day, and after just 12 days of eating LCHF I have lost 11 pounds - I lost 9.5 pounds my very first week. I realize that your first week you lose a lot and your second week you tend to lose less as your weight loss starts to even out, but either way these are results that I am very pleased with.

My stats: Female - Age: 28 - Height: 5′ 8″ - Starting Weight: 312 pounds
I had given up on attempting to lose weight entirely. I figured, every single time I try to lose weight, I’m great at it at first, lose some weight, and then the hunger hits. All day, every day, I was hungry, moody, and irritable. The diet would stop, the weight would come back on, plus more than I had lost in the first place. When thin people ask ‘How can fat people let themselves go like that?’ - for me? I dieted my way up to this weight. Every year since I was 15 years old, I was on some kind of diet.

My husband and I both went to the doctor recently and were weighed. He is 6′ 4″ and weighed in at 341 pounds. I weighed in at my highest-ever weight, 312 pounds. We looked at our numbers and both mutually agreed that something had to be done about the way we were eating.
It wasn’t that either of us felt that the other should lose weight to be more attractive. Hubs has never, ever asked me to lose weight, and I have never asked him to lose weight. But for me, this weigh-in was just kind of the last straw, you know? I was still gaining weight, besides not dieting. It was getting to the point where I was tired all the time, and I couldn’t fit into movie theater seats or airplane seats. (Speaking of airplanes, I need a seat belt extender when I fly. That + tiny squishy airplane seats + an 8 hour plane ride is the worst.) Doing minor chores around the house would wipe me out. I was ready to get back in the saddle.
I was thisclose to purchasing a $400 box of MediFast food (again, a diet which I had tried and failed in the past, because I was always starving) when my healthy-weight sister suggested I try LCHF. She sent me the link to a popular LCHF website and told me that it was the eating plan she had used last year when she wanted to drop some weight (she had gained a few pounds while working for a pizza place.) My sister, who is 5′ 5″ and was 145 pounds at the time, dropped 15 pounds in just 30 days.
What was funny was… I didn’t remember her dieting.
I remembered that she was eating a lot of chicken, and she would have a kale shake every day since she absolutely could not stand vegetables. But I didn’t remember her dieting in the way I was used to. I read it over.
MEAT?

ALL THE EGGS I WANTED?

ALL THE ABOVE-GROUND VEGGIES I WANTED?

MODERATE AMOUNTS OF MILK, CHEESE, NUTS, AND BERRIES?

ALL THE BUTTER I COULD STAND?

BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY!
For the past 12 days I have eaten the healthiest food I have ever eaten in my life, and I want to eat it. I’m not hungry. At all. Like, not even a little. On Day 2 I couldn’t finish my breakfast or my dinner - I have finally found out what people talk about when they ‘stop eating when they’re full.’ I am telling you, I have literally never experienced that. It has always been ‘I need to finish my whole plate of food and still be hungry in an hour or two.’
I’m early in my journey - I know this. But man, I am so excited for this. I will continue to update as my journey progresses.
